UW-Madison Rises in Ranking of Top Colleges

Washington Monthly magazine has once again named The University of Wisconsin - Madison one of the top universities in the country, rising to 26th overall from 28th in 2016.  The ranking is based on three criteria: research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D.s), social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students) and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).UW - Madison ranked fifth in research expenditures, eighth in the number of science and engineering doctorates awarded, and 14th in the number of alumni who go on to serve in the Peace Corps. The magazine writes “Instead of assuming that the most expensive schools are also the best, we recognize universities that produce research, train the next generation of scientists and Ph.D.s, and instill their graduates with an ethos of public service.”
