On October 5th, Lee Francis Cissna was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in a vote of 54-43. Mr. Cissna, who until now, has headed immigration policy at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), praised the confirmation, saying Cissna is “uniquely qualified” for the position.USCIS is tasked with overseeing the U.S. immigration system and is responsible for approving immigration benefits.
