Milwaukee Marriott Downtown and Global Water Center both 2014 Mayor's Design Award Winners

Milwaukee Marriott Downtown and the Global Water Center both win a Mayor’s Design Award this year. Both the Milwaukee Marriott Downtown and the Global Water Center are FirstPathway Partners' funded projects.

Celebrating 17 years, The Mayor’s Design Awards has become a tradition in Milwaukee. This award honors projects of various sizes “for their contribution to the built environment in Milwaukee”.

Milwaukee Marriott Downtown took home the “Live. Work. Play” award. According to the award details, this achievement honors an “extraordinary contribution to the live/work environment; reflects the style and personality of the owner, while making a positive and sensitive contribution to the neighborhood fabric; expansion or renovation that’s harmonious with the original structure.”

The Global Water Center received the “Test of Time” award for “appropriate restoration or adaptive reuse, sensitive additions, renovation or expansion that is harmonious with the original structure, rehab of original façade”.  Jeramey Jannene of Urban Milwaukee has to say this about the Global Water Center: “…a gem of a (sic) adaptive reuse project in Walker’s Point. The project is also the first project on Freshwater Way to win a Mayor’s Design Award (and hopefully not the last)…Built as home for The Water Council, the building holds an accelerator for water-related companies as well as other offices (including one for the Water Council champion Greater Milwaukee Committee). It serves as a gateway to the Reed Street Yards area.”

FirstPathway Partners congratulates this year’s winners in all categories and we look forward to next year’s winners.
