Global Water Center Tenant, A. O. Smith, to Build Massive Plant in China

The world’s leading manufacturer of residential and commercial water heaters and boilers has found success with the lab it operates out of the Global Water Center. And after yet another strong quarter, A. O. Smith plans to build a 700,000 square foot plant in Nanjing China, at an estimated cost of $65 million.

According to A. O. Smith’s Chuck Wright, the company outgrew “due to demand for our patented water purification products”.

The new plant will fulfill a thriving Chinese market, which has seen unprecedented growth. Construction is slated to begin next year, with production anticipated Q1 of 2018.

A. O. Smith recently made headlines as it partnered with the Water Council to select a winner of the BREW Accelerator Program, a program that unleashes water innovation by funding water technology startups with commercialization potential. The program aims to pair a unique water-focused startup community with resources of the World Water Hub, which in turn helps entrepreneurs from around the world accelerate their results.
